LASIK in Arlington
LASIK is the laser eye surgery that has led to a revolution in how well people see without the help of corrective lenses. It’s safe, effective, and fast. At A Visual Affair, our ophthalmologist in Arlington will have you come in for a consultation and exam to find out if you’re a good candidate for this procedure.
How does LASIK work? Our ophthalmologist in Arlington opens up a small flap of your corneal tissue, which is then folded back so that the laser can reshape your cornea, the part of your eye at the very front which is the first destination for light as it enters your eye. Your cornea is responsible for directing that light to the back of your eye, where your retina will transform it into a visible image. Under normal circumstances, that light should strike your retina at the center. But the curvature of your cornea can send it more toward the front or back, which then results in nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, or any combination of those refractive conditions that are most often corrected with eyeglasses or contact lenses. When our ophthalmologist in Arlington reshapes your cornea, light will once again reach the retina at or close to the center. And because of this, you will experience greatly improved vision. Some patients are able to discard their eyeglasses or contacts entirely. And the vast majority of the others are at least able to rely on them far less than before. The success rate for LASIK is about 90%. In order to qualify for it, you must be at least 18; have had no previous corneal surgery, scars or infections; and be willing to stop wearing your contacts for two to four weeks prior to the procedure.
